🛢️ Why Food Grade Gear Oils Matter – And Why Petropec Has the Solution
In today’s food and beverage industry, hygiene isn’t just a priority — it’s a legal obligation. While most companies focus on cleaning surfaces and sanitizing production lines, there’s one area that often gets overlooked: lubricants.
That’s right — the oil running inside your machines can be a hidden source of contamination. This is why Petropec Food Grade Gear Oils are specially formulated to deliver maximum protection, minimal risk, and full compliance with global food safety standards.
What Are Food Grade Gear Oils?
Food grade gear oils are specialized lubricants used in machinery that may come into incidental contact with food. These oils are used in:
- Mixers & conveyors
- Gearboxes in dairy or meat processing
- Bakery ovens & dough blenders
- Beverage filling and packaging lines
They must meet strict safety standards such as:
- NSF H1 registration – allows incidental food contact
- FDA 21 CFR 178.3570 – regulates ingredients safe for use in food environments
- ISO 21469 – hygienic manufacturing of food-grade lubricants
✅ Petropec Food Grade Gear Oil Series (VG 100 to 460)
Petropec offers a complete series of food-grade gear oils, with viscosity grades from ISO VG 100 to 460, designed to meet the demands of food processors large and small.
Key Features:
- NSF H1-compliant formulation
- synthetic base oils for high thermal stability

Where Petropec Food Grade Oils Work Best
| Industry | Application |
|---|---|
| Dairy & Cheese Plants | Conveyor gearboxes, mixers, separators |
| Meat & Poultry | Stuffing machines, grinders, chain drives |
| Bakery | Dough mixers, ovens, cutting machines |
| Bottling Lines | Gear drives, cappers, and palletizing systems |
| Pharma & Cosmetics | GMP-compliant gear systems |
Whether you’re running a biscuit line or a bottling plant, Petropec’s food-grade lubricants keep your production safe, smooth, and compliant.
Technical Excellence, Safety Assured
Each product in the Petropec FG Series is:
- Free from heavy metals, animal derivatives, and allergens
- Blended under strict quality control to avoid contamination
- Designed to perform even under load, heat, and moisture
Verified compliance: All ingredients meet FDA 21 CFR 178.3570, and our formulations are benchmarked against NSF H1 standards. We can provide SGS lab testing or self-declaration certificates upon request.
Why Synthetic is Better
Compared to mineral-based food-grade oils, synthetic PAO-based lubricants offer:
- Longer oil life
- Better oxidation stability
- Wider operating temperature range
- Reduced maintenance and fewer change-outs
This means lower total cost of ownership and fewer shutdowns.

PETROPEC – We Move You Smooth
Your partner in food-safe lubrication.
hi , may i know what type of food grade gear oil you recommend for planetary gear box ( low speed high torque) and electric motor housing ( inside), will this has any chemical reaction with carbon based mechncial seals , bop /pet sheeting , temp will be max 80 and lowest 10 c
Greetings,
we can recommend you the correct oil viscosity if we know the gear box and its recommendations, how ever you can contact us for details about the suggested viscosity grade suitable for your gears, as for the chemical reaction please be specific about what kind of reactions are you concerned about, there are no chemical recactions noted or claimed to apper, however if you have any specific questions about the oil bheaviour with the seals and other information please feel free to contact us at our given contact details.
